When it is decided that a car will become an ELV, it must be handled, dismantled and disposed of in a way that is as environmentally friendly as possible. The Motor Vehicles Act, 1989 mentions that every vehicle should have a valid vehicle fitness certificate (FC) to ensure if it is fit for the roads. The registration of both commercial and private cars becomes easier when the Government issues an FC.The owners of old and unfit vehicles will receive a scrap value that is equivalent to 4-6% of the ex-showroom cost of the new vehicle that they would buy. Total loss Vehicles.

In proper terms, total loss of the car refers to the situation where the cost of repairing your car is more than 75 percent of the insured declared value (IDV). The insured declared value is the maximum amount that you can claim from the insurance company at the time of any damage.

Accidental Vehicles.

A car can be given for scrapping if it is badly damaged in an accident, or remains unused for a long time and is not in working condition, or exceeds its expiry date and the registration certificate (RC) or certificate of fitness are not renewed by the RTO. The expiry date varies for different states.
